Today we celebrate all over the world International Women's Day. The day, what so many perhaps take for granted and does not understand how lucky we are or just forget which possibilities we have in this world. How safe we can feel and what we can do.
On Thursday this week I visited Womens shelter home/safe house in Jönköping and handed over the check for 62000 crowns, what Lions Club Jönköping had gathered together in December 2014 with Jönköpings Lucia. That money will be used to summer trip for women and children who lives in safe house with protected identity. That money will be well used, we know that, since we meet the leader from the house in November in our club meeting. She told us, how they had used the money from Lucia 2013 what went as well to them.
That shows how unfair world we live. Of course there is also the men, who lives under same conditions as women, but still often is women in the weakest situation and needing protections and help. Especially when children are in picture. So sad that those kind of living arrangement is needed at all.
In the same time in other countries in the world is till places, where women have to hide themselves, they have no rights to do anything - to go to the streets, to show their faces, to vote and so much more. Those times we, who have it better, we forget it what we have and what kind of opportunities we let life to miss. Women usually feel that they are less worth than men, but it is not true, but we feel that we are weaker and that we don't have much power or strength, but in true, we have it. We just need a will to do it and to use it. Yeessss, many thinks, that it is easy to say, but the truth is, that it is not. I have been self one of those, who have followed the majority for a way too long time and not believed in me. Now, this times are over. Has been over more than a year and I can say, that I feel free and I feel alive. Often it is just hard to take that first step. After that is done, it is much more easier to take second and third step. When first steps are taken, first road in your own choice is followed, when you can feel the real freedom. The same is with decisions. After we take one decision of our own, we feel much better. Hopefully the man dominated world will come as well to 21th century and will and world of the women will be more respected. Unfortunately I do not believe much on that, since it feels that in many countries men are not willing to change it. Sad, but true, but still we can hope and dream. Like one of the last years Nobel Peace price winner Malala Yousafzai said: "All what is need to scare a Taliban is a young schoolgirl and a books". A little bit more about her shortly can be read in Wikipedia or her blog or her found. I must admit, that I am impressed of that young woman and her strength and willpower. If you truly want something and you have will, when you also will get it!
So, we should be more noticed the possibilities we have, choices we can take and freedom, what we can enjoy. Something what we should not take for granted in our life. So let us enjoy today and celebrate a day for us. Perhaps be bit more pampered at home as well from our men and partners.
